About the Institute for Sensible Transport

The Institute for Sensible Transport works to reduce car use in urban areas. It does this through an integrated approach of facilitating an environment more attractive to walking, cycling and public transport.

The Institute for Sensible Transport promotes a balanced approach to transport planning. For too long urban planning has taken place through the view of a windscreen. This has caused a number of problems, including air and noise pollution, sedentary lifestyle disease, road traffic injuries and social dislocation. High fuel prices and a growing awareness of climate change heightens the need to take a different approach to our transport policies and practice.

We have experience advising all three levels of government on transport policy issues. Utilising our skills in transport planning, public health and sustainability, we are able to offer practical advice and expertise to help create, vibrant, healthy, sustainable cities.
